Meet Electronic Music Producer PROTEK

What first inspired you to start making electronic music, and who were your biggest influences early on?: I grew up in Thunder Bay, Ontario, where the winters are long and the club scene is small — electronic music felt like a window to something bigger. I got hooked on house music through classic Chicago house and the UK tech house sound; artists like Fisher, Chris Lake, and the early Dirtybird crew showed me house could be raw, fun, and built for peak-time energy. I started producing because I wanted to make the kind of records that make a whole room move.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?: High-energy tech house built for the dancefloor — driving basslines, chunky drums, and vocal chops that hit hard but keep it groovy. It's peak-time house with a Canadian edge: stripped-back, punchy, and designed to move crowds from the first drop.

Walk us through your creative process. Do tracks usually start with a melody, a beat, a vocal, or something else entirely?: Most of my tracks start with the groove — a driving bassline or a rolling drum pattern that I can feel in my chest. Once the low end is locked in, I build around it with vocal chops, percussive fills, and tension-and-release arrangements. I'll test everything in my DJ sets to make sure it works at full volume before I call it done.

What's the most challenging part of producing music in today's electronic music scene?: Standing out. There's so much great music being released every week that getting heard is the real challenge — building a loyal audience while staying consistent and authentic takes as much work as the production itself.

Can you tell us about a track you're especially proud of and the story behind its creation?: My track "FTB" on Deep Elite Records. It came together fast — I had this vocal chop idea and a bassline that just wouldn't leave my head, and the whole track built itself around that energy in a couple of sessions. It captures exactly what PROTEK is about: big, bold tech house that goes off live. Released September 11, 2026, it's the record I'm most proud of so far.

What artists—inside or outside electronic music—are inspiring you right now?: Right now I'm inspired by the whole new wave of tech house — Chris Lake, Fisher, and Biscits keep raising the bar for club records. Outside of house, I pull a lot of inspiration from hip-hop and old-school rave culture; that raw energy feeds directly into my sound.

What's next for you? Any upcoming releases, collaborations, tours, or projects fans should know about?: I've got more music lined up with Deep Elite and a few other labels I'm excited about, plus new originals I'm testing in my sets. The focus is on building the PROTEK brand — more releases, bigger shows, and taking this sound as far as it'll go.
